Example of Abstract of the Dissertation

In order for the results of the research to be widely published and presented to the scientific world, the author of the dissertation creates an abstract, a brief summary of his dissertation. Its main purpose is to inform the scholar community about the completed dissertation research, obtained scientific results, to introduce these facts into the sphere of scientific communication. It plays an independent role, introducing new information on the problem. The abstract is a kind of guide on the scientific issues developed by the candidate. Having identified some information on the author’s abstract, the scholar refers to the full text of the dissertation. The abstract is a short form of a dissertation. It must be written directly on the base of the dissertation, have to match the content and conclusions of the dissertation and should be adequate to it in a semantic sense.

Mechanisms of the Adaptation of Synchronous Movements of the Eyes and the Head in Microgravity Conditions

Violations of sensorimotor functions and motor control systems are a constant and regular satellite of space flights of various durations. Disrupting the activity of leading sensory systems such as vestibular, supporting and muscular weightlessness creates conditions for transformations in motor control systems, expressed in the reorientation of motion control systems on other, more stable afferent inputs.

In the works of many researchers, it was shown that the control system of arbitrary motions in weightlessness is based mainly on signals of gravitationally independent visual differentiation. In these conditions, the accuracy of visual tracking becomes particularly important in ensuring the reliability of space flights.

At the same time, the regularities of oculomotor activity in weightlessness to the present time remain poorly understood. One of the basic reactions of visual tracking is the reaction of fast installation of the gaze on objects suddenly appearing in the peripheral field of vision. The organization of this reaction is based on primates mainly on the signals of the vestibular input.

Obviously, in the conditions of weightlessness, which deeply disturbs the activity of the vestibular apparatus, the characteristics, and organization of this reaction varies. In studies performed in flights on biosatellites, profound changes in the oculomotor interaction and the response characteristics of the gaze sight in monkeys were revealed and described. However, the characteristics of this reaction in man’s weightlessness have not been studied to date.

It is also important to note that in primatology experiments on bios satellites only the reaction of the horizontal setting of the gaze was subject to investigation. At the same time, it is known that the greatest changes in weightlessness are observed in the vertical tracking characteristics, in which the otolith system takes an essential part.

In connection with what has been said, it was important to study the features of the adaptation processes in the system of horizontal and vertical reactions of the gaze installation in humans during and after long space flights. It was also interesting to examine the central mechanisms involved in these processes, which were not previously studied in humans.
